Massage Therapist for Myofascial Release
Gail
Martin, Muscular Therapist provides myofascial release for
clients in the Boston, Massachusetts Area. Myofascial release is
a gentle stretching technique used to treat people for a variety
of soft tissue problems including chronic neck and back pain, carpal
tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, migraines, TMJ and other physical
ailments.
Myofascial release must be performed by a certified massage therapist or physical
therapist. Each myofascial release session involves gentle but intense
one-on-one treatment from your massage therapist.
Why Myofascial Release?
A massage therapist who performs myofascial release can help relieve a number
of physical ailments. Myofascial release is a therapy that helps
restore fascia (the thin tissue that covers all muscles and organs)
and muscles to their normal functioning state. When muscle fibers
are injured, they become short and tight causing uneven stress dispersement
throughout the body, and can cause pain in parts of the body you
might not expect. Myofascial release, when performed by a licensed
muscular therapist, can help to treat these symptoms by relieving
the uneven fascia stress.
What does a massage therapist do for myofascial release?
During a myofascial release session, the massage therapist guides stretching
of the fascia based on body feedback. This feedback helps the massage
therapist understand how much force to use in which direction.
The massage therapist stretches a small area at a time, using two
fingers to stretch a part of a muscle.
Most of the time, the massage therapist can find sore spots (Myofascial Trigger
Points) by touch, which is helpful when the client does not know
where the sore spots are. Over time, these sore spots are reduced,
and progress is measured by a decrease in pain and improved posture.
It is important to note that myofascial release is not massage, even though
it may be performed by a massage therapist. Myofascial release equalizes
tension throughout the body; whereas massage is targeted to specific
areas.
A Massage therapist enables whole body healing
Gail Martin, massage therapist takes a "whole-body"
approach to healing. Her techniques provide a unique balance between
medical and holistic approaches to healing. Myofascial release is
based in medical research; however it takes a more holistic approach to healing
the mind and body.
